What an exciting time! The beginning of a new adventure – not just for me but for both of us. Those of you who know me already know that I have spent the better part of the last year focused on where my life was taking me. Along the way I have met some truly amazing people and I can not wait to introduce you to them. I have also learned a lot about who Michele Scism is.
I have known for quite some time that I have wanted to work with women. Although I was raised by very strong and powerful women and spent most of my life working in predominantly male industries, it was my five years as a Mary Kay Sales Director that showed me the struggles that women face on a personal and business level daily. After selling our businesses and trying retirement (which absolutely did not work for me), I started working on what I could do to help women.
In the summer of 2009 I decided to enroll in a summer program called Social Media University from SelfGrowthMarketing.com during which I was blessed to meet Nancy Marmolejo and while telling her my struggle with which path I should take she asked me one simple question – “Michele, what do you do (that you love) that comes so naturally you don't have to think about it?” That answer was business! I am a third generation entrepreneur and I started working at the age of 5 or 6; as soon as I was tall enough to stand on the stool and see over the edge of the (paper) bag so I could bag groceries in our grocery store. Nancy was a huge help and now I knew I wanted to help women in business, but that still isn't narrow enough.
While I continued to work on my options Nancy introduced me to Adam Urbanski, The Marketing Mentor, who has become my amazing business mentor. Adam helped me to focus on what it was in life that truly energized me. He also helped me to realize what drains me which I will be avoiding at all cost – LOL! There is a great book I read that will help you with these decisions. It's called “Go Put Your Strengths to Work” by Marcus Buckingham. Do yourself a favor and read it.
I found out that:
- I love to teach people what I know – to those who know me this will not be a shocker at all. I am the person everyone calls to ask what to do. You know what I mean – you probably have a person like that in your life.
- I like to teach in smaller groups because I like the interaction with the smaller group.
- I like to work with women who actually own their businesses. They have a different stake in learning since they are actually on the line for their business.
- I am a deep believer in master minding. I will write a blog soon about what a master mind is and how it works but for now lets just say it is when a small group of like minded people get together to brainstorm.
- I want to create informational products. I have been a long time lover of learning. I am constantly reading or listening to CD's or going to seminars because I believe you should never stop learning.
After all of this realization and a lot of working with Adam thinking and planning we came up with what I think is a phenomenal business plan. I am proud to introduce you to Decisive Minds which is dedicated to the success of Women Business Owners. We will begin by focusing on women in smaller areas where there just isn't a lot of training being done for them. I live in Lake Charles, LA and within a 1 hour radius of here there may be a total population of 300,000 people. We aren't large enough to have trainings here by the ABWA or NAWBO or any other national women's organization. We are blessed to have a Women's Commission which holds a conference once a year but that isn't enough. In this economy women need help in their businesses right now.
We will also be starting small mastermind groups exclusively for women in our area. As the facilitator I look forward to watching these women's businesses grow as they start to learn from each other and work with each other in joint ventures.
Soon we will also expand out into other areas of the country with smaller populations that are in need of these trainings for women. As I said earlier – It is truly an exciting time! I look forward to working with each and every one of you! Check back soon for information on our first training – it is coming to Lake Charles later this month!!
