Is There An Easy Button?
I feel a bit of a rant coming on…
If you've been an Internet Marketer longer than two months, you've probably realized there is no Easy Button. If you hadn't realized that then I am so sorry to be the one to tell you. For some it might take more time and a few more hopeful online info product purchases before they figure it out. That's okay, I'm not knocking that.
There are so many marketers out there preying on “newbies”, trying to sell them the idea of easy, quick, and massive income if the newbie would just buy their product. While most of them don't come right out and say “This is so easy a kindergartner could do it before his afternoon nap”, they infer it. Or do new marketers read erroneously between the lines?
Either way, The Easy Button is a myth.
Here's another one we want to believe, “Check your email on your laptop while on the beach in an exotic location to see the money flowing into your accounts.” The idea is you'll be making easy passive income without lifting a finger. The truth is yes, you can be making passive income while you're away on vacation. But a whole lot of hard work has to go into your business first. Call it sweat equity, if you will.
Do all the work first – plant the seeds, tend the small seedlings, dig out weeds, protect your investment from bugs – then reap the rewards of an excellent crop. Now someone new coming along at harvest time might think it was easy or you were lucky, but you know the truth!
Although I am a proponent for building a solid foundation and putting in lots of hard work, I also believe you should work smart and leverage yourself and your products as much as you can. I also believe in creating systems and finding fasters ways to do something.
You could tell these marketers selling the myths to knock it off, but they won't because selling the myth works for them. Sad, isn't it? That you can't sell a great, helpful product by telling people it will take hard work to make it really work for them.
There are other myths out there. Got any you want to add?
Hey Judy – You are so right – we all have to work really hard. I remind myself all the time that I am consistent and persistent, powerful and persuasive. I actually have my own little rap version I say to myself. LOL But thing to remember is that those who persist for the long term are the winners. Thanks for commenting. Michele
This is SO true, Michele! When people find out I work from home they always ask me questions about it and seem to have the impression that it’s an easy, overnight kind of job. It’s definitely not the kind of thing where you can snap your fingers and get to wild financial success – it’s a lot of hard work, determination, and as you put it, “sweat equity” that has to go into it to build that type of foundation in a business. It’s nice to see honesty about what it does take. I believe anyone who sets their mind to it CAN build a successful business online, but only if they put that mindset into action and consistently learn, implement, and move forward.
Hey Michelle – “overnight” being the optimal word. I seem to be working “overnight” all the time. LOL Thanks
Hey Lynn – Thanks for the comment. It is one of the hardest realizations that I think people have to come to when starting out online. We are too much of an instant gratification society (and infomercials don’t help). Thanks, Michele
How about the myth that you can make money while you sleep – is is possible, of course, but only after you put in all the work. As you point out, Michele, sow the seeds first in order to reap the benefits.
I head a fantastic line at a conference – “I put in 18 hour days so I can make money while I sleep!” An instant classic!
Be Well.
Paul.

Hi Michele,
There is definitely no easy button. After all these years I’ve learned to spot the phonies.
As you said, I’ve been consistent and persistent for several years and I know that I’ll realize my dreams soon…with continued hard work.
I was trying to explain to a teenage boy (son of friends) this week what I do and how I do it, since he had questions and it was a fun conversation…… I told him that aside from selling product, I get a lot of website orders that I need to process…. I get a lot of emails from consultants on my team that I need to respond to with good ideas….. I get emails from people interested in joining the business and I email them back with times I’m available for phone appointments….. so he said “basically you sit on the couch all day and answer emails?” and I thought about it….. that kind of IS the bulk of what I do! If you watch me work all day, it really looks easy but it’s taken a while to GET the customers to email and GET the consultants to email and GET the prospects to email and the work leading up to this point is not where I’m going to go when chatting with a teen. I think those of us who are successful in business have a tendency to make it LOOK easy.
Heather – That is too funny! Your right – it can look so easy to the outside world but they aren’t there at 2am when we are still writing follow up sequences. LOL I can look back now and remember times when I thought certain guru’s just had it made – hmmm… Thanks for commenting, Michele
