I’m sure some of you are probably looking at the title and thinking, “What…fear of what?
Success, who would be afraid to succeed?
Everyone wants to be successful in life, don’t they?” Honestly, there are many people who are truly afraid of success. I used to be one of those people myself.
I didn’t realize it consciously, but there was something deep down holding me back from recognizing the potential I had inside. Others could see it, but it was as if I was blind to it completely.
Keep reading to see if you too could be someone who suffers from a fear of success and not even know it. If you find out your afraid of success, first understand it’s not as unnatural as you might have once thought.
Many people find they are the only thing holding them back from the life they want to lead.
Have you ever had someone say to you, “You’ve got so much potential in [insert certain area in your life here]” and found yourself doubting what they were saying or not believing it at all?
Be honest with yourself now and really think back to those times and the people who were saying those words to you. Who were they? Probably people you admired and looked up to weren’t they? I thought so! That is exactly who I heard those words from so many times in my own life.
Now take a look at yourself, not just your outer self, but your inner self. Really examine who you are, where you’ve been and what it is you want out of life.
If you find yourself coming up short of your goals over and over again or worse yet never set goals at all, stop and think about why that is.
Here are a few questions you should be exploring the answers to.
Why don’t you go after what you want in life? Is it family values? In other words, are you putting your family ahead of your personal hopes and dreams? Why can’t your family be a part of your dreams?
Do you think you don’t have what it takes to reach your goals or live your dream?
Do you feel like you’re not smart enough or talented enough to live your dream?
What is your dream? Do you even have a dream? Are you afraid of dreaming, maybe you think ‘what’s the use’?
Believe me when I tell you I’ve been there and still struggle with believing I have what it takes to live my dream. But as I get older (which happens a lot faster now for some reason) I am realizing I DO have what it takes to be successful in life.
I AM smart and I AM talented! Am I one of those people whose talent stands out above all others, who others seem to notice immediately? Maybe not but I would like to think so. But I am living my dream of working from home, owning my own business and doing something I truly love.
What’s in your heart? Is there a burning passion deep inside that keeps tugging at your heart or recurring in your mind? Do you see yourself doing something like speaking on the big stage at an annual conference or being the top producer in the nation?
Go for it!
Don’t let your fears or anxiety get in your way. Figure out what you are afraid of and the things that are holding you back. Then, learn to overcome them. It is possible to get through when fear tries to stand in your way.
I know – I have done it! I have had an amazing increase in business since I found out what was getting in my way. I actually will be speaking about this and what steps I have taken to over come this during my talk on Sept 14th during my upcoming virtual summit – “The Ultimate Client Attraction Summit”

Facing your fears is the only way to truly overcome them and once you do, you may find that what you’re afraid of isn’t so bad after all.
Michelle – You are an amazing woman and thank you for helping other amazing women understand that fear can not only be failing but also succeeding.
I actually had 2 speakers at my telesummit last week talk about overcoming fear in the job search. I work with people who are looking for new jobs and it’s one of the top 3 issues I find with all my clients. Losing their job created such fear in their life that they use it to block getting new jobs. If any of your readers are looking for jobs I encourage them to visit my site for some great resources.
Joy
Oh Joy – The feelings are mutual! I think you are amazing. I know that fear can be far stretching and can touch every part of our life. But the great thing is that we can work on ways to get over it and get control back. I heard your tele-summit was amazing! Congratulations! Michele
Great post, Michele. I have realized for some time now that fear of success has been a huge roadblock for me but my main problem now is trying to overcome my fear of success. That I haven’t been able to figure out. I would love to be on the call but it is on Tuesday and Tuesdays and Thursdays are hard for me at that time.
Hey Sandi – Thank you so much for commenting. The recording of the call will be up for 24 hours afterwards – maybe you could listen to it during that time? Just an idea. Let me know if there is anything I can help with. Michele
Thanks Lee for commenting. The funny thing is that I knew something was going on but not what. Sometimes we don’t realize what we don’t realize. :)) Thanks, Michele
Thanks Michelle – I think it would be awesome for you to join us. If you have any questions just let me know. If not just check out the registration page at http://ultimateclientattractionsummit.com.
Thanks, Michele
It’s amazing how much fear will prevent people from fulfilling their dreams. My philosophy is “Today could be my last day so go for the gusto.”
Go for the gusto means to give your all to anything you do.
Nice article Michele. You always make so much sense.
Intriguing post. I have heard a lot about fear of success. It’s interesting how we can learn to be afraid of anything.
